Sensitization Campaign in Secondary Schools (ECCRSS Project)
March 27
Free
Safe Haven Cameroon in collaboration with Lead Child Africa and Wanda’s Legacy is launching the Empowering Communities to Combat Rape and Support Survivors: A Holistic Approach project funded by Rescue Women Cameroon, a critical initiative designed to address the devastating issue of rape in Yaoundé. This project takes a multifaceted approach to combat sexual violence, focusing on sensitization campaigns, skills acquisition workshops, and digital advocacy. Through community engagement and empowerment, we aim to provide survivors with the tools to rebuild their lives while creating lasting awareness around the issue of rape.
Sensitization Campaign in Secondary Schools
Building on the momentum from the primary school campaign, Safe Haven Cameroon will host a sensitization campaign in secondary schools within Yaoundé. This event will focus on educating teenagers about the issue of rape, empowering them with the knowledge to recognize, prevent, and respond to incidents of sexual violence. Secondary school students are at a pivotal stage in their lives, and it is crucial that they understand the importance of consent, safe spaces, and the legal and health systems available to protect victims.
The campaign will involve the distribution of flyers, posters, stickers, and comics tailored to the teenage audience. These materials will explain not only the dangers of rape but also how to intervene in situations where they might witness sexual violence. In addition to raising awareness, the campaign will emphasize healthy relationships and respect for others’ autonomy.
Similar to the primary school campaign, a trained counselor will be available at each school to offer confidential support to students who may have been affected by sexual violence or are in need of guidance. This ensures that the event is not just informative but also provides emotional care and support for those who need it.
