Skills Acquisition Workshop for GBV Survivors and Single Mothers (ECCRSS Project)

March 29 @ 7:30 am - 2:30 pm

Free

Safe Haven Cameroon in collaboration with Wanda’s Legacy and Lead Child Africa is launching the Empowering Communities to Combat Rape and Support Survivors: A Holistic Approach project funded by Rescue Women Cameroon, a critical initiative designed to address the devastating issue of rape in Yaoundé. This project takes a multifaceted approach to combat sexual violence, focusing on sensitization campaigns, skills acquisition workshops, and digital advocacy. Through community engagement and empowerment, we aim to provide survivors with the tools to rebuild their lives while creating lasting awareness around the issue of rape.

Skills Acquisition Workshop for GBV Survivors and Single Mothers (Soap Production, Beads Making, Packaging/Branding and Digital Marketing)

One of the cornerstones of the Empowering Communities to Combat Rape and Support Survivors(ECCRSS) project is economic empowerment for survivors of gender-based violence (GBV), including internally displaced persons (IDPs) and single mothers. On this day, Safe Haven Foundation will organize a skills acquisition workshop that will equip participants with the necessary tools to generate income and achieve financial independence.

This workshop will focus on two key skills: soap production and bead-making. These practical, marketable skills are ideal for participants who have experienced trauma, as they provide a tangible means of building self-sufficiency and independence.

During the soap production training, participants will learn the entire process, from the basic formulation of soap to proper packaging techniques and distribution strategies. They will gain hands-on experience in creating high-quality soap, which can be marketed and sold to generate a stable income.

The bead-making workshop will teach participants how to create beautiful, handcrafted beads that can be sold in local markets or used for personal crafts. In addition to learning how to make the beads, participants will also be trained on how to price their products and target customers effectively.

Furthermore, the workshop will include lessons on entrepreneurship, where participants will learn how to analyze the market, understand their customers’ needs, and manage a small business. These sessions aim to empower the women and provide them with the tools they need to not only survive but thrive in their communities.

Upon completion of the workshop, each participant will be provided with starter packs containing the essential tools and materials they need to begin their entrepreneurial journey.
